RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

“Had it not been for this program,

I don’t think I would even be alive.”

-Central Nassau client

Residential Services gratefully acknowledges the generous support of The Michael & Helen Schaffer Foundation

Central Nassau provides specialized mental health residential services to people, age 18 and over, in locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk County.

The goal of our residential programs is to provide a safe and supportive environment allowing our residents to grow and achieve their fullest potentials. Our programs receive funding from The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). We receive ongoing support from the Nassau County Department of Mental Health and the Suffolk County Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services.

Transitional Licensed Housing

•We operate four congregate treatment (supervised) group homes that offer 24-hour on-site staff supervision.

•Nassau County residents are served at two homes in Hicksville and one house in Brentwood.

•Congregate Treatment Program for Suffolk County residents is located in Ronkonkoma.

•Central Nassau also offers an Apartment Treatment Program (ATP), in Nassau County, which provides daily visits from staff as well as a 24-hour emergency number.

•The MICA Recovery Residential Program provides congregate treatment rehabilitative housing to 15 individuals who are Nassau County residents with mental illness and recent challenges with chemical addictions. An OMH licensed CDT Program is located within the building, allowing treatment and housing in close proximity.

Both levels of licensed housing operate with the goal of working in partnership with residents to gain the skills needed to manage their psychiatric symptoms, maintain their sobriety and perform the daily activities needed to live in a more independent setting.

Permanent Housing

Central Nassau provides permanent Supported Housing, funded through OMH, since 1992. This program serves over 100 Nassau and Suffolk County residents, age 18 and over, who have psychiatric disabilities. Residents in our permanent housing pay 30% of their income towards rent and utilities.

Our Enriched Supported Housing Program in Valley Stream is staffed between the hours of 8:00 am – 8:00 pm and offers 24-hour on-call supports as needed.

In 2011, we took over operations of 6 HUD Permanent Supportive Housing Programs serving 90 adults and 60 children in locations scattered throughout Nassau and Suffolk. The head of the household in these programs has a history of homelessness and a disabling mental or physical condition.
