“Runday” To Benefit People with Mental Health/Addiction Challenges
CN Guidance’s Annual 5K, 10K, and ½-mile run for Adults and Children is May 28th

May 3, 2016 (Hicksville, NY):  Raising funds to help individuals, families, and communities affected by mental health and addiction disorders, the community-based nonprofit CN Guidance & Counseling Services, Inc. (Hicksville, NY, www.CNGuidance.org), will hold its annual Barbara Bartell Memorial “Runday” this year on Saturday, May 28th, 2016 from 8 to 11 AM with check in from 7 to 8 AM. The race will include a 5k, 10k, and a ½-mile “fun run” for kids. The start line is at: 950 South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville, NY.

“This is one of our most popular community-building and fundraising events,” said Jeffrey Friedman, CEO of CN Guidance, the region’s leading behavioral health services provider. “It literally sets our community in motion during Mental Health Awareness Month. Every participant is running in support of people reclaiming their lives from addiction and mental health disorders.”

While cause-driven, the event is also a USATF (USA Track & Field)-sanctioned race, featuring a fast, flat course with time results provided by Elite Feats and winner recognition offered by CN Guidance. Nassau County Police Traffic Control will promote the safety of all participants and supporters. Three water stations will be situated at key locations along the course, with food and additional beverages at the end of the race.

Race Director/CN Guidance Board Vice President Carl Grossbard, shared “While this is a great event for runners, it is also a wonderful family day, including a fun run for kids on a straight ½ mile-course, lined with cones and volunteers for safety.” Mr. Grossbard added that a $500 raffle grand prize winner will be chosen at random from the race participants at the end, and trophies will be awarded to the top overall male and female runners. The top three finishers in each age/gender group and all fun run participants will receive medals.

Major Sponsors of this year’s Runday are M&T Bank, Alcott HR, Waltral Brothers, Inc., Brento Mako, and LJM Management and Construction.

Proceeds from the race will benefit CN Guidance & Counseling Services, a nonprofit dedicated since 1972 toward serving people with mental health and chemical dependency disorders, promoting recovery, and increasing their ability to live with confidence and self-sufficiency in the community. CN Guidance provides clinical treatment, rehabilitation, housing opportunities, social and support services, counseling, and guidance to individuals, families and the community affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, psychological difficulties, addiction, and/or dependency problems.

Since 2014, the Runday race has been named in commemoration of Barbara Bartell, the dedicated executive director of CN Guidance for many years.
