Long Island Runners Join Together to Make a Difference This May During Mental Health Awareness Month

Communities Unite for 5K Runday in support of CN Guidance and Counseling Services

Hicksville, NY (June 2, 2017) – Men, women, and children from across Long Island took part in the Barbara Bartell Memorial 5K Runday on May 27 in support of CN Guidance and Counseling Services—a nonprofit organization that provides wide-ranging services to families and individuals facing mental health and/or substance use disorders.

This year’s event opened at 8:00AM with Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker who each year provides the numerous children participating in the Funrun a warm inspiring welcome.   The Funrun was followed by the highly anticipated start of the 5K run at 8:30am.   Local members of the community cheered for the runners as they proceeded through the streets of Hicksville, which is home to CN Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc.

Jeffrey Friedman, Chief Executive Officer of CN Guidance & Counseling said, “The support that we feel from the community each year is incredible. It is not only heartening to feel the community come together like this; it is a concrete way that Long Island residents have been able year-in and year-out to contribute to maintaining the capacity of our organization to serve people who are struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. We deeply thank everyone who participates each year.”

Carl Grossbard and Mark Seiden—both local residents who serve as board members of CN Guidance, both play a major role each year in organizing the Runday, spreading word about the event, and garnering sponsorships and donations.  The 2017 run is breaking sponsorship records this year – having already raised over $30,000 for the nonprofit’s cause largely attributed to the generosity of the event’s main sponsors including M&T Bank, Alcott HR, and Irwin Contracting.
